Ankle Fractures, Stable
A fracture is a break of a bone. Fractures are usually caused by a hard, forceful twist or impact to the ankle. Tendon and ligament tearing and damage generally occur with ankle fractures. A non-displaced, or stable, ankle fracture occurs when the ankle bones break but remain in position. Pain and swelling occur immediately. Walking on the ankle may be possible but it is not recommended and could cause increased damage.
